Windows Live Messenger Issues

1- After you download the Spring Update , you get this error message :
"Windows Live Messenger is not available from a Windows Live Child Account"
This happens when you try use the new Messenger feature - available on the Xbox 360 after the Spring Update - using child account or graduated account ( user created it before his age is 18 and now he is over 18 )
I checked this with Xbox customer support and they said they are aware of this issue and they are still investigating it.
In the mean time all you can do is create new gamertag with new Windows Live ID, but make sure the age of the account user is over 18.

2- Can't find the display name in the Xbox 360 dashboard.
If you can't find your display name in the Xbox 360 dashboard, just go to this link
Sign in to your messenger and change the display name to the one you want to be displayed. Then sign out from the messenger and sign in again . The issue will be resolved.

I have had major issues with this xbox live messenger thing. sure im only 17..but i have been using MSN for years now! I think there should be a way to change wich email account is connected you your xbox live account. that would be a simple fix

Unknown said...

Sorry to hear that but till now you can't change the email connected to your Xbox Live account. Maybe there will be a resolution later, but currently there is nothing like this.

Thank you

I'd love to help you alot with that but the issue is that you won't be able to change the email(Live ID) associated with your gamertag to use it on the Live Messenger. I'm afaraid you must use the Windows Live ID that is associated with your gamertag for Windows Live Messenger on Xbox 360.

how do you change your messenger display name on the xbox because iv changed it on the computer but it still hasnt changed it on my xbox.

Hi there,

1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://webmessenger.msn.com/
2. Click Start MSN Web Messenger.
3. Use the Windows Live ID that is associated to your gamertag to sign in to MSN Web Messenger.
4. Click your display name.
5. Type the display name that you want other people to see on the Xbox 360.

Hope that helps,

So is it worth putting in a support request with Windows Live Messenger to change my 18 year old's account to an adult account or is that not where the problem lies?

Any idea on when there might be a fix? We just bought the Messenger Kit today and now are unable to use it because of this issue. Thinking of returning it unopened if no foreseeable fix.

Also it sure would be nice to have the ability to change Messenger IDs though as he has set a newer one up. What is the reason behind that policy?

Thanks, Catherine

Hi Catherine,

I'm not sure if Microsoft can do so for you.
You can contact their support and ask for that.

Actually Microsoft said that they will explore solutions that let these members (who were previously on an Xbox Live Messenger child account but have now turned 18 years old)use Messenger on their Xbox 360 and will update the community when we have more information to share.

So it's your choice now.
You can contact Microsoft's support if they have a resolution for that or you can create a new gamertag with a new Live ID (age over 18 years old)

Wishing you the best of luck,

so just to clarify is there no way to change the e-mail address associated with your gamertag as of yet?

Unknown said...

Hi there,

It's some how disappointing, but as till now YES.

You can't change the Live ID (Email) associated to your Gamertag yet, and I don't think this will change soon.

Cheers.

Hi,

I just turned 18 on the 27th and I am using the email account I created when I was like 10. I thought on my 18th birthday I would be able to use the messenger feature and actually be able to add friends! I was wrong... whats going on here? I don't want to change my email that I've had for like 8 years! Is there any fix in the future or should I just make a new gamertag?

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,

If you read the past comments on this page you'll know -I'm sorry to tell you so- that it's not possible to change the current situation.

As you said and as we said before you'll need to create a new gamertag.

Hopefully they'll change that policy in the near future although I don't reckon that will happen.

Cheers.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get a password reset sent to a different email account than the one you signed up with as my email I signed up with is no longer valid and I cannot remember my password?

Unknown said...

Hi there,

Could you remember when you first signed up for this email did you enter an alternate email address?
If you did so you'll be able to get the password reset and sent to this alternate one.

You just enter your email (the one you forgot the password) then click forgot password then choose send an email to alternate email address.

Or you can contact windows live support via email to help you with that.

Cheers,

Hi, i was trying to move info from my xbox 360 to a memory unit. I was deleting old things off the memory unit and somehow everything was wiped off (memory unit and Hard Drive). There was a lot of game progress and I would be thrilled to get it back. Please Help

Unknown said...

Hi there,

Sorry to tell you so :(
But if you delete something from a hard drive or a memory unit. It's gone.
Good Luck...

Hey that display name thing worked great, thanks for the help. It kept showing my old display name, even though I signed on to Messenger and changed it. For some reason when i folloed that link and signed onto the Web Messenger, and then signed back in on xbobx live, it was fixed :)
