How to access your router settings through your PC

The way to access to your router settings differs from one router to another but basically it will always be through your PC most of them would be as follows:

1. Open an Internet explorer page on your PC.
2. On the address bar type 192.168.1.1 as for Netgear routers and 192.168.2.1 as for Belkin routers or 192.168.1.1 as linksys routers, if you have even any other brand you can try these three numbers I reckon one of them will work.
3. Then you click GO.
4. You'll get your router settings main page on the screen asking you for your Username & password usually by default the password will be even the same as the Username (Username: admin, Password: admin) OR it will be password (Password: password).

5. You can then look for whatever you want on the router settings, Bon a petit :)

If you failed to access to it please leave me a comment to check with you how to do so and leave me your router brand and model number

Hi there,

I've searched to check whether your router might need some particular setup and I found the best page to help you with it so here goes:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DI-524/Xbox_Live_360.htm

Check this link and if you faced any problem with it or any other problem even, let me know.
Cheers.

This site is VERY informative! I am pretty computer literate so I'll give you the specs & my question:

1. XP Pro SP2
2. Windows Firewall Disabled
3. Internet comes from the wall, into the Motorola Modem, then to my Netgear Router (WGR614 v6), My single computer and the Xbox are wired to the Netgear Router.
4. Netgear Firewall Disabled
5. Zune software Version 2.1.888.2 (Enabled to share media)
6. Windows Media Player 11.0.5712.5230
(also Enabled to share media)

In my Network Connections window I have:
1. Internet Gateway. Go to Properties, click Advanced, I have checkmarked the Xbox
(192.168.1.3:3074)UDP
2. LAN or High-Speed Internet. Go to Properties, scroll to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties, All is set to be Automatic.

On the Xbox, go to System, Network Settings, Test Media Connection. All tests pass EXCEPT PC Selected. PC Selected always fails. Here's the thing though, I can connect to Xbox live no problems EVER.
What did I miss? Please instruct me on how to pass the PC Selected test.

I'm hooking my xbox 360 up to the internet through my laptop. Like the people above the MTU test fails. I have a dlink router and I've gone online to the site and the MTU was originally set to 1500 so I put it down to 1365, but I'm still failing the MTU test. Any ideas on what could be going on?

Hi there,

You are connecting through your laptop. So it's ICS connection and for ICS you'll need a program called DrTCP to change your settings.
Also check this link, it'll be helpful if you have more questions regarding the MTU:

I don't have a router, my computer is connected with wireless card directly to the modem. My MTU always fails, how do i fix this?

Please help,

I use Sprint wireless broadband for xbox live. Everything was working fine for months. For some reason I am now getting NAT - Moderate instead of open. I have not clue what changed to affect this.

Hi there,

Try turn off you modem and turn it back on again then test Xbox Live connection.
If MTU failed again you'll need to get the physical address from the PC to put it on the dashboard of your Xbox 360 console as some cable companies are preventing any unknown MAC Addresses from connecting, to get the Physical Address of you PC connect the PC only to the modem then follow these steps on this link:
http://xbox360help.blogspot.com/2007/03/how-to-get-physical-ip-dns-addresses-or.html
the physical address will look like this 00-E0-98-C1-88-C2.

Then Go on the dashboard of your Xbox 360 console to “System” area then “Network Settings” then “Edit Settings” then “Additional Settings” tab then select “Advanced settings” & put the Physical Address of your PC without the dashes on the “Alternate MAC Address” part and select "Done", when it asks you to Apply Settings choose “Test Xbox Live.

Hi.
I cant realy understand wat you wrote down about the D-Link thing, but i have a CT-301 ADSL Modem and i cont get xbox live working because of the MTU. I have a Wired connection that i connect to the router. I wanted to know an easyer way to change the router settings.

Hi there,

Basically it's not that clear to me.
Are you connecting yor Xbox to a router or a modem?
If a router, you can just contact your router's support and ask them to set the MTU between 1364 and 1492

If a modem, you'll need to get the physical address from the PC to put it on the dashboard of your Xbox 360 console as some companies are preventing any unknown MAC Addresses from connecting, to get the Physical Address of you PC connect the PC only to the modem then follow these steps on this link:
http://xbox360help.blogspot.com/2007/03/how-to-get-physical-ip-dns-addresses-or.html
the physical address will look like this 00-E0-98-C1-88-C2.

Then Go on the dashboard of your Xbox 360 console to “System” area then “Network Settings” then “Edit Settings” then “Additional Settings” tab then select “Advanced settings” & put the Physical Address of your PC without the dashes on the “Alternate MAC Address” part and select "Done", when it asks you to Apply Settings choose “Test Xbox Live

Hi, im not sure if this is the right place to leave my question, but i'll ask it never-the-less, ive recently set up my xbox live wirelessly, i connect my Xbox 360 Wireless networking adapter to my Netgear router, and im trying to play the music that is on my computer through my Xbox 360, when I got my Xbox live through ISC this wasn't a problem, when my computer was on, i cud just play music on my 360 off my computer without any hassle, oh and im using Windows Media PLayer 11, anyways in WMP i go to Library>Media Sharing and my 360 comes up on the list so i tick my 360 so it is allowed then I click Apply and then OK. On my Xbox though I still cannot play music thats on my PC through my Xbox, when i test the PC connection, the PC Selected tab always fails for some reason, please Help. Thanks.

Hey, I've tried all sorts of things to get my Huawei SmartAX882 to work. And not just on Live, other games, PC games don't work with it. It's basically a poop router. :(

I haven't tried the UPnP thing yet, I'll try that and get back to ya.
If it work, cheers.
If not... I'll complain a bit in a while. ^__^

hey, its daniel again, i tried to access my router settings, but it says The server 192.168.1.1 at WPN824v2 requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection). (i copied this) and then it gives a username and a password - im not sure what they are or how 2 get them :( any ideers??

and another thing, i have the wireless networking adapter-the official one when i try to get on live, i get an ip address and a server, but no gateway, i dont think the xbox is connecting to the computer??

Hi Daniel,

Nice to hear from you again.
You can contact your router's support and ask for your WEP key. It would be much easier.

Hello,

I am at my wit's end with trying to connect to Xbox Live. I am trying to connect to Live via my laptop. It's weird because the last time I played Live four-five months ago it worked, and I still have the same settings enabled.

Up to about an hour ago, my IP Address kept failing, but then I read in one of your comments a manual way to enter an IP Address, and I did using the parameters you gave. Thankfully, this worked, and now my IP Address is confirmed. However, my DNS fails. I have also done the "Protocol" tip you gave where I tick the "obtain automatic settings" for IP and DNS, but no luck.

I don't know if this matters or not, but whenever I do enable the "obtain...automatically" settings on my "local area connection," it will go back to "use the following IP address" and say 192.168.0.1 for the IP Address andd 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask. Below, it will have "Use the following DNS server address" bulleted, but there will be no numbers for that...

Thank you so much in advance,
Kyle

Hi Kyle,

Below is the DNS link on the blog:
http://xbox360help.blogspot.com/2007/03/dns-failed-on-xbox-360-live-test.html

Try the steps under:
c. ICS

I believe it'll help.
