Xbox 360 Live Main Issues

when you try to connect to Xbox Live you may experience some issues & then you'll find it asking you to test your connection on the System area on the Xbox 360 console dashboard, The connection test screen is divided into 8 parts when of them will fail to connect & it will be the reason you couldn't access to Xbox Live so let's go on these 8 parts & see how to resolve the issue of each of them:

1. Network adapter.

2. Wireless Network.

3. IP Address.

4. DNS.

5. MTU.

6. ICMP.

7. Xbox Live.

8. NAT.

And there is some information like new terminologies that some of us may face while connecting to Xbox Live so i gathered some of them in this link.
If you have any further inquires please don't hesitate to send it to me.

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with some issues concerning the whole "Child Account" garbage or at least help me to change the associated e-mail with my account.

Unknown said...

Hi Nick,

If you face any issues regarding a child account, check this link :

http://xbox360help.blogspot.com/2007/05/windows-messenger-live-xbox-360.html

But I'm afraid you won't be able to change the Live ID linked to your Live account.
Sorry for the bad news.

Hi, my name is spencer.
I have a question about changing family settings for xbox live. Everytime I try, it says it cannot connect to xbox live and to try again later. When I run connection tests, everything is fine. It does this when I try to change any online settings. Also, I can't remember which Microsoft Live identity I used, is there any way to figure that out?

Unknown said...

Hi Spencer,

It might be that you have a Live pass code set so you'll need to rest this pass code and to do so just delete your gamertag only and then recover it.
It will be downloaded without any pass codes.
But to recover your gamertag you should know your windows Live ID and password so try to remember it or get it from your dashboard.

I hope that works,

Hi! You seem very knowledgeable! I'd like to ask a question;

I was messing with my Router settings to get my NAT to open when I finally succeeded! ... and now, every time I try to sign on to xbox live, I see my cool wallpaper for a brief second before it kicks me back out to the un-signed in screen I just came from. If I escape the window while half signed in, and go to say my friends list, the xbox just freezes. I've reset my router, and even connected the xbox360 directly to the cable box, no change...

I am very sad. I feel like I just lost a limb. Please help!!! Thanks so much.

Hi Laura,

First of all, sorry for the delayed respond but it was really an off week.

1. Anyway I want you to restart the whole system by that I mean to turn it all off including to remove the router's power cable from the wall socket then reconnect it all and go on your dashboard to "System" then "Network Settings" then "Restore to Factory Defaults" and when it ask you to apply settings select "Test Xbox Live".

2. Even if all confirmed we need to lower the firewall settings on your router, check this page on how to access your router settings:
http://xbox360help.blogspot.com/2007/04/how-access-router-settings-on-pc.html
then try step 1 again.

Hopefully that will work if not please feed me back with exactly what happened.
Cheers.

Hi. I have the same problem as spencer above. When i try to access family settings, it says "Cannot connect to xbox live." I know it is not my connection, because i even brought my xbox 360 over to my friend's house and tried it there. I tried recovering my gamertag, and that didn't work either. Any other Help? Is there any way to turn your family settings off online?

tormenta said...

Hi. We set the Family Settings passcode for my son on the Xbox 360 a while back and misplaced the password. (Offline game play...not Xbox LIVE) We have also forgotten the answer to the question we had in order to reset the password. I 800-4myxbox and asked the tech guy for assistance. After an hour of going to the system tab -> console settings -> system info and performing a series of trigger, x, y and bumper combinations (which was supposed to result in the resetting of the code and reboot the console), nothing happened and he is still unable to play any of his games.

Do you have any ideas on how to resolve this. The machine is completely useless at this point. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan,

If you delete your online gamertag from your Xbox 360 console(I mean delete profile only) and then recover it back, it'll be downloaded without any Live passcodes.
Just don't set it again ;)

Hi Tormenta,

Regarding family settings pass code, Xbox Support only can reset it for you.
Sorry for the bad news but this is how it's done.
But you can call them again and give it another try

When I turn my 360 on it connects to xbox live and my friends list works. Then it says that i cannot sign in to messenger and also the first three tabs on the xbox 360 dashboard keep loading but I get no results. I cannot view the marketplace, xbox live, and games tabs on the dashboard because it is loading. Also when I am trying to play a game online, it says that i am not connected to the network but i am still signed in to xbox live. Even when I run the xbox live tests, it says everything is fine. How can i fix this?

Hi Sam,

You can try the steps on this page on the blog:

under: 1. Xbox 360 console freeze online only

Hi Matt,

I'd recommend that you try clearing the cache. Here's how to do it:
1- Go to System
2- Then Memory
3- Then hard drive and press Y to view the device options screen
4- On the controller press X then X again then left bumper then right bumper then X then X again.

Also if your connecting to Xbox Live using a router, you'll need to contact your router's support and ask them to open the following ports for you UDP88, UDP3074 & TCP3074 and also ask them to lower the firewalls on your router and if there's any update fot the router's firmware you have to get it.

Cheers now,

I have family settings on and I went to system and then to family settings then to consoles and i tried pressing disable family settings but it won't let me. How can I turn it off?

Unknown said...

Hi clippersfanx13,

Basically if you go to System then Family settings then Console controls and presss turn off family settings it should ask you for your username and password. You just enter them and it'll be off.

If you tried so and it didn't work, you can contact Xbox Support and ask them to reset it for you and when they do, don't turn it on.

Cheers now,

Hi.

Every time I play Halo 3 (and this has only occurred while playing Halo 3), my Live connection will suddenly go dead. My computer, which is also on the same network, continues to have internet access. This happens repeatedly, and the only solution I have is to restart my router any time that it occurs. My NAT is open, every other game works fine...any tips?

Cheers.

hi there! name's luke!

i posted on the DNS failier page cos it was the first i was directed to through a link but i found this!

as i said before i have an xbox 360 wireless network adaptor for my xbox but when i try to connect im asked to test the connection! when i do test the connection it passes everything but when i try to sign in to xbox live it doesnt work and asks me to test the connection!

when i test the connection after this, it fails 2 or 3 times at the 'xbox live' test then passes everything the 3rd or 4th try!

any sollutions or advice?
Cheers

Unknown said...

Hi Luke,

I believe this is an issue in the settings of your wireless routers so here's what you need to do:
1- You'll need to contact your Router's support and ask them to lower the firewalls on the router.
2- Also ask them to open these ports for you: UDP88, UDP3074 &
TCP3074
3- And also try to check with them if there's any update for your router's firmware. If there is you'll need to get it.

Hope this will resolve your issue.

Heya,
Wondering if you could help. Its a Halo 3 related matter!!!
Signed up to xbox live (silver membership) & when I try to sign on just to play levels it trys to connect to xbox live everytime. This will then not let me play the levels.
Does this mean that i need the gold membership, as i have this on one of my other users & it works fine?

Thanking you in anticipation

Pip

Hi there,

Regarding family settings for Xbox Live there are 3 parts in Xbox Live controls:
1- Online gameplay
2- Privacy and friends
3- Content (This is the one for downloading contents, updates and demos)
Make sure this one is allowed.
Also check that your age on the gamertag you're trying to download with.
Also there is an agreement between Microsoft and the governments. Each country allows contents downloads according to the country rules and regulations.

Cheers now,

Hi Pip,

I believe you need a Gold subscription to play Halo 3.

Hi I'm Kelly

Everytime I try to download the heroic map pack for halo 3 it tells me that i'm not allowed to dowload this premium content, but everything in my family settings is allowed and i have a gold membership

Hey, call me Dillon

I have a question for you Mr. 360 helper! Today I acquired an ethernet cable and now have my Xbox 360 online. My only problem is that the profile i have been using for the past year has accumulated about 4000 gamerpoints and I want to be able to make that profile available for online play. Now, normally, the Xbox live service requires you to make a new, online gamertag but, I searched on Xbox.com and i found directions for putting all the achievements from your old offline gamertag, to your new one. The thing is, I followed them perfectly and it didn't work! I fear that I may have to run through my entire gaming library again to earn back my GP's, and that I something I would prefer to avoid. Thanks for any advice you may give me, Mr. 360 helper!

PS This is the link to the directions...http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/account/migrationfaq-mergeofflineprofile.htm

My friend bought me a 1600 points card so I can buy some Rock Band songs from the marketplace but when I try to download the songs, this thing pops up saying something about my family settings not allowing downloads. So then I went to the System blade and into the Family Settings menu and into the Xbox Live Controls to try to change my settings. The problem is that another pop-up appears and says that I can't connect to Xbox Live. wtf thats bs I was just playing Call of Duty 2 online just a while ago...

Can anyone help me please? I don't want my 1600 points card to go to waste since I can't download anything at all.

Hi there,

You'll need to test Xbox Live & see which part fails exactly on the test whether it's IP, DNS, MTU and so...
Also you can find on the blog a page for each part that fails on Xbox Live test .
And don't hesitate to leave another comment if you need any help.

Cheers,

I've tested Xbox Live 3 times and it showed no problems at all. I guess it just won't let me connect when i'm trying to change my family settings.

I can download the free stuff and demos perfectly fine, but Family Settings just won't let me download things that cost points.

Hi my name is kris,

I am one of the unlucky few that does not have an internet connection. Since i was getting bored of the songs in guitar hero and rock band, i let my friend download downloadable content onto my hard drive, at his house it worked fine, however when i plugged my drive into my 360 the content would not work, eventhough i can clearly see the content on the hard drive. In rock band, it says "loading additional content" but then there is nothing new there when i go to choose a song.
Any suggestions on how to get it working? thanks in advance.

If anybody needs to reset their family pass code and forgotten their security question this is how you can reset it back to the factory settings you will lose a lot of unsaved data but its the only way you can do it heres how
1 Turn the console off
2 remove your HDD
3 Turn console back on and wait
for it to boot up
4 Go to systems on the dashboard
5 Go to system info and click A
6 Then you have to do a series of
button pushing and has to be a
smooth but and fairly quick
action you can't miss a
beat otherwise you have to
start over again
7 This is the button sequences
8 LT RT XY
LB RB Y
R DIRECTIONAL L DIRECTIONAL X
9 THIS IS THE LETTER MEANING
LT---LEFT TRIGGER
RT---RIGHT TRIGGER
THEN PUSH X AND Y BUTTON
LB---LEFT BUMPER
RB---RIGHT BUMPER
THEN PUSH Y
RIGHT ON THE DIRECTION BUTTON
LEFT ON THE DIRECTION BUTTON
THEN PUSH X
THEN A SIDE PANEL WILL APPEAR
PROMPTING YOU TO RESET ALL
SETTINGS CLICK AND YOUR ALL SET
TO GO TURN CONSOLE OFF ONCE
THATS DONE HOOK UP YOU HDD
FIRE UP AND NOW YOU GO AND
PUT YOUR OWN PASS CODE AND
SECRURITY QUESTION IN HAPPY
GAMING THIS INFO FROM GAME BOY

It won't let me download game videos with a mature rating anymore. It keeps saying that it can't download that rating. Why is this happening and what can I do to get the axis I once had?

Hey, name is Peter.

I have the same problem as Nick and I read your advice. But to be safe How exactly do you only delete your online gamertag? Knowing my luck I would screw myself over. Also would you lose any data doing so, such as achievements etc. Thank you in advance.

Anonymous said...

Hey its Peter again.
Meant to say same problem as Spencer sorry. Also, if it helps it does the same thing when I try to change my windows live ID. Thanks again.

Hello, I'm Jeff.

I have a little problem on my Xbox 360 at the moment.

When I received the Xbox 360 on Xmas, I was experimenting with the settings. However, I accidently put up a password on Family Settings, and then I forgot it completely. I can't watch videos, I can't put in a DVD. Is there a way to reset the code?

Hi Jeff,

- If it's an online gamertag, you'll need to rest this pass code and to do so just delete your gamertag ONLY (I mean delete profile only) and then recover it back.
It will be downloaded without any pass codes.
To recover your gamertag you should know your windows Live ID.

- If it's an offline gamertag, You can call Xbox Support and they'll reset it for you.

Hey, Devon here.

Alright, this is kind of a weird and complicated problem so I'll explain the whole thing.

1. Yesterday, I was playing COD Modern Warfare 2 on Live no problem.
2. Today, I turned on the 360 and signed into my Live account. It said I was connected to xbox live.
3. Started Modern Warfare 2.
4. Greeted with a screen that says I need to download an update.
5. Began download.
6. Download does not begin, error screen says that the system could not connect to xbox live. It told me to do a test run for live.
7. System settings -> Test Run. Everything connects just fine, no errors.
8. Repeat steps 3-6.

I went through this process a couple times and I tried tweaking my ethernet cable, I tried unplugging ethernet and connecting wirelessly (which works fine), tried turning off my modem and back on etc...

So anyway, if you have any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate them. Thanks.

-Devon
