Two Red Lights Flashing on you Xbox 360 Console

If suddenly while you are playing you get two quadrants of the ROL (Ring of Light) around the power button of you Xbox 360 console flashing red, this is an indicator that your Xbox 360 console is overheating some how.

That will be due to one of the following reasons:

  1. You set your Xbox 360 console near to any heat source or electrical device.
  2. Your xbox 360 console is not set in a well ventilated area.
  3. There is something blocking the fan openings on your Xbox 360 console.
  4. You are using the Xbox 360 external fan, and basically that's a third party accessory so it sometimes harm the Xbox 360 console.

So, try eliminating all these reasons & if you are still experiencing the same behaviour then you have to contact Xbox 360 customer support to exchange your console or even to get it repaired.

ya ive had my nes since 87 and it works fine but it doesnt look as good as my 360.Ive only had my 360 for 7 mo. and it got two red lights and it has nothing blocking it. You can only have it on for an hour at a time if you dont want it to mess up

I can play my XBOX 360 all day and the two right red lights will not flash. After four minutes of GTA 4Both right red lights will flash. I have exchanged the game for a second disc and still after four minutes the two right red lights flash. I have tried all troubleshooting steps and still the two right lights flash red. All other disc are fine. WTF?

GTA IV also seems to cause this on my 360. Although its usually after a little over an hour of playing. I wonder if GTA IV is really pushing the power on the console so much that it is causing the overheating.

I get a couple of minutes into GTAIV and I get the two red lights. I just got off the phone with MS and I am pissed. I had to exchange my system like 4 times because of the 4 lights and they said that the 2 lights are not covered on the 3 year warranty extension, and I told them that it hasn't even been a year since I last returned the last system and they said there is nothing showing. I am about ready to give up and go with a PS3.

I had RROD until i installed on the flat heatsink a custom cpu fan and now i only have 2 flashing red lights on the left side, im guessing the other heatsink needs a custom cooling for it and im done?

Did any of you guys update your system with those specific games before you got the red rings? Because this morning I was playing COD:MW2 for about 3 hours and right when I put in COD:WAW I had to update it and five minutes later I got the rings...idk whats going on but I think the hardware that the update installed is corrupted and is what's messing up the system.

I had a super nintendo, it was fine, i had a playstation it was fine, i had a playstation 2 it was fine for like 4 and a half years of constant playing which im quite pleased with, im now on my third x box 360 elite and each time it has been a manufacturing fault... WTF... the new XBOX DOESNT JUST NEED WI-FI IT NEEDS A NEW DESIGNER!

I had this problem start with RockBand2. Like another before, I too bought a new copy and it still didnt work. I then, after 5 months, if letting it sit and "cool down," I decided I wanted to play....nope. I went to get it fixed at a local shop that said they could fix it. I went there because Microsoft wouldn't do jack. I got my box after the shop fixed it, took about an hour. They guy working on it said it was a lazer problem, so I paid for a new lazer. The fixing was about a month ago. Now, just turning on the Xbox-with no game in it- it starts flashing 2 lights and the power icon. This BS about it being "over heating" is getting old.
